Hillcrest Ferrets - The Ferretry Information
The 2003 Litter has come and gone! Email me if you are interested in reserving a kit for next year. As always, specializing in sables and dark sables, and next year hope to add some black mitts. The projected plans include several ferrets that have won Best in Show at AFA shows, so make your plans early for what should be beautiful, well-behaved, healthy ferrets with outstanding bloodlines.

My Breeding Philosophy:

I breed more for quality than quantity. I believe very strongly in choosing the best jills and the best hobs to continuously improve the health, longevity and temperament of the domestic ferret. Hillcrest Ferrets are wonderful Companions, first, show ferrets or future breeders, second. My ferrets come from long-lived lines with the best structures and health and are selected personally by me. The kits are all hand raised from day one and are familiar, comfortable with, and affectionate toward two-legged ferrets. I spend hours every day playing with them and socializing and getting them used to the things that humans will do, such as nail clipping, ear cleaning, etc. My kits have all been happy, affectionate, joyous, playful and energetic - exactly what a ferret should be!

I also use as natural a system as possible - natural food, lighting, and I try to give them each their own environment, space, and time. My personal belief is that some of the diseases we see in ferrets now are caused environmental factors and stress. So I try to minimize the stress and make the environment natural. Check out the Chicken Gravy page for more info on diet.

I welcome visitors to the ferretry - please call ahead or email and make an appointment. Kits are only available seasonally, so that means sometime in late spring or early summer. However, visitors are welcome any time to see parents and grandparents and see how Hillcrest Ferrets are raised.

Purchasing a Hillcrest Kit:

All my ferrets are tested regularly for ADV (Aleutian Disease Virus, see Links page for more info). All kits will have at least their first distemper shot before leaving the ferretry. I will not let them go until they are at least 9 or 10 weeks old, possibly older depending on their physical and mental development. Unless prior arrangements are made, all kits are sold on a neuter or pet contract, with a $50 rebate on the purchase price upon proof of neutering. I do not ship my kits, all kits must be picked up at the ferretry or from an event I am attending.  Keep in mind that I intend to interview you and you should have a list of questions for me!  I am registered in the State of New Jersey for ferret sales. One of my goals is to match the right kit to the right person to make both parties happy.

For those of you who prefer to purchase your new ferret from a private breeder, rather than the pet store or by an adoption from a shelter, here is a list of private breeders I can recommend:

Novel Beginnings Ferretry

Shady Hollow Ferretry

Just a Business of Ferrets

Treasured Ferret

Ferrets of the Heart

They all have kits available now and I've seen some of them - they are really beautiful!
